Yesterday I had the privilege of photographing Morna & Russell's wedding, which took place at Braelangwell House, a beautiful 18th century Georgian country house on the Black Isle.

Weddings are never 'easy' but this one was about as easy as you could ever hope for. I was working with a gorgeous bride and a handsome groom who were good at posing naturally, perfect weather, a location with many great and varied settings, and Morna's parents Jimmy and Joyce were as kind and considerate as they always are, taking a lot of the pressure off me.

But then I had to contend with several equipment failures (Pocket Wizards failed! Pocket Wizards never fail!) and the nerve-wracking challenge of this being my first social event using off-camera flash and even having to gel the flash to match the tungsten lighting at the reception.

But I totally coped! Proud of myself, in fact. Three years ago my career plan was to do newspaper work and never go near a wedding. Now I love doing weddings! The huge responsibility used to scare me but now it's a buzz…

Shot specs:

The first two shots were done with a Canon 1Ds and 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens, the next with a Canon 1D and 17-40 f/4L lens, and the rest with a Canon 1D and the 70-200 again.

Lighting set-up was the usual 550EX and Lightsphere on a stand at 45 degrees off camera axis, to the left on the first four shots and to the right on the rest. For the exterior shots the flash was direct, for the interiors it was bounced. All fired by Pocket Wizards until they failed (grr) at which point I switched to the ST-E2 wireless transmitter for the last two exteriors.
